Unicorns ‘n Rainbows – Essentials by Ellen

Alcohol inks are having a hot comeback! Since I had some non porous Yupo paper I got to work trying out some color combo’s. Ellen Hutson has a Challenge going on so this was perfect timing to work something up. I long since gave up the small collection of alcohol inks I had so tried using my Copic refills and my Copic Colorless Blender Solution.

Choosing some nice color variegations I ran the cloud and heart dies from the Unicorns n’ Rainbow’s set through my Gemini. Then used Copic markers to color in the Unicorn and the Rainbow images mounting them on Neenah #110 lb Solar white Card stock.

The clouds came out so magical with the alcohol inks, it just seemed perfect for this kind of look and the hearts, too! My color choices were totally dependent on the refills that I have and then tried to match them as closely as i could to the markers I chose for the images.

Unicorns ‘n Rainbows by Julie

Magical, Dreamy, and on my card today, living among the clouds. This card inspired from a set in a new release from Ellen Hutson LLC. The “Unicorns ‘n Rainbows” set has several very magical looking unicorns, fluffy clouds, rainbows , sentiments, stars, hearts, an arrow and some shooting stars.

A dreamy watercolor background seemed like the perfect backdrop for this sweet image. Not wanting to distract from the pastel colors of the unicorn I left out coloring on my rainbow. Actually, my dog ate the one I had colored, after I noticed that I rather liked it plain, better!

What a special, feel good kind of sentiment to send off and encourage someone today!

Below listed in not so important order (a little technical issue for me, today) are linked products for easy shopping. There is a small compensation given to me (at no extra expense to you) when shopping with me! Thank you so much! It helps to offset blog costs, etc.,!

And one more thing, considering unicorns and all!

Happy Shopping!

Into the Woods – Ellen Hutson LLC – Leading Ladies

Still can hear my mom’s voice saying, “Why do you want to live so far out of town?” They lived within 10 minutes of downtown Anchorage and my moving South of town meant it would take me 20 minutes. My answer was something like, that’s where I like it. Little did she know that years after she passed away I would move 2 miles further south and more in the woods. In fact we left part of our property in woods and have “green space” on the other side. When I first saw “Woodsy Lady,” I had to have her!

The antlers in the back was perfect for her backdrop as many an Alaskan wife has either embraced them or made sure they were kept in the garage, given away or hung out of sight. I made sure ours disappeared. Thinking they are the perfect accessory for a cabin in the woods or as an accent for this card, however!

And, because I’m a fan of a lot of white space on a card and SMORES, I had to make this one. Using the tiny acorn from the Woodsy Lady I created a light random background with HERO ARTS Soft Sand Shadow ink and by masking off a large margin around the middle. Then used Scrapbook Adhesive foam squares to pop up my squirrel who has toasted his marshmallows.

Brandi Kincaid always comes up with such cute little images and sentiments to match her Leading Ladies. I have several of the other “Ladies” on my wish list!

By the Sea – Alexandra RENKE

A “One Layer Wonder,” and lots of white space are my favorite types of cards to make. These Sea themed images by Alexandra RENKE are just perfect for my sea-loving friend having a birthday. Ellen Hutson LLC recently added these to the shop and I was excited to put some cards together. After coming up with the single layer design, making the card was a breeze.

One way to begin a center design (leaving lots of white space) is by taping off the 4.25 x 5.5″ card with purple tape or some easy to remove tape. In this case, I decided to cut a mask by using my nesting rectangle dies by HERO ARTS. Placing that “frame” on top of my card stock I stamped my boat, cut a little mask for my boat, then stamped my waves. Distress ink in Fossilized Amber provided a little swoosh of sunshine on the edge. The sentiment, “SEAS the DAY,” part of the Essentials by Ellen “Mermaid’s Tail, designed by Julie Ebersole, was the perfect size to fit within my space. By stamping the sentiment in Broken China Distress Oxide I was able to add clear embossing powder for a little shine. Wink of Stella in clear added a little glimmer to my sea.

It’s always tricky to catch a bit of shimmer in a photo but, you can see it here, a bit.

I had Sea themed fun on my mind today, booking a fishing trip for 5 girlfriends to fish for Red’s on the Kenai River this summer! I love showing a bit of Alaska to friends from the “lower 48.” I can hardly wait!

Essentials by Ellen – New Release Available NOW!

Always excited about a new stamp and die release from Essentials by Ellen! My favorite is another fun addition to the MONDO theme with the Mondo Sakura set by Julie Ebersole. This beautiful cherry blossom image is no doubt influenced by her recent trip to Japan. Such delicate artwork and a versatile image, perfect for any occasion. Finally able to share the cards that I was sneaking peeks of the last few days.

Had to give the Hero Arts liquid watercolors a try as they had been on my “splurge” list for a while. I love the colors! The “beautiful” font is a die cut that comes with the Mondo Sakura designer dies. I stacked several to give it some dimension.

In this next card I white embossed the sakura image on 40 lb vellum and die cut it with the matching die.

Love the look of vellum with these flowers, almost life like. The “Hello” die is from the BLOCK WORDS designer die set. Such a perfect size to pair with images or even as a stand alone with other embellishments.

And, just in time for a teacher thank you or graduation gift card…the PARCEL BOX!

This little box easily fits in or on a card and holds a gift card perfectly. The set offers different closure options along with a tiny bow, banner and tags. This one made up as a senior grad gift.

Thanks for celebrating this fun release and spending a few minutes with me! I appreciate all your hearts, likes and comments on my Instagram and Facebook feeds! I’ve linked to the new products below and shopping my affiliate links do provide a bit of compensation which help to offset my blog posts.

Have a great week!

Everyday Hero Lady – Essentials by Ellen

Thankful for all the many Hero Ladies in my life! These images by Brandi Kincaid are perfect to celebrate all of them! And, now are available at Ellen Hutson, LLC.  I have two sisters and am blessed to have both of them in my life. Both are my Hero Ladies! This particular card is inspired by the one who is the most patriotic person I have ever known! So this Hero lady is all decked out in the red, white, and blue!

I’ll be sending this card on it’s way to tell her how awesome I think she is! We all need to share that message with our Hero’s! She tirelessly makes every holiday a fun celebration, decorates her home with cheerful, seasonal decor, encourages everyone in their faith in God and is one of the most loving persons I have ever met. Her very life, the fact that she is still alive is nothing short of a miracle. A year ago she was rushed to the hospital, underwent an eleven hour surgery, to repair, a soon to rupture, aorta. Twenty five years earlier both of our parents succumbed to aneurysms within a few months of each other. Thankfully we are now “on alert” to be pro-active in heart health for our family. So even in that circumstance she is a blessing to our family, just by “being her.”

I just love these Leading Ladies by Brandi. She seems to identify all the fun whims and personalities that touch each of us. This Everyday Hero Lady set has wonderful sentiments that personalizes any project for Grandma, Aunt, Niece, Sister, Friend, Daughter and Mom.

Shopping links below list the new release by Ellen Hutson LLC. Pretty sure I should be adding the HOT MESS LADY to my wishlist! I do receive a small compensation if you shop the links below which help offset my blog costs.

You’re S’whale! – Essentials by Ellen & Memory Box

Having always lived by the ocean it’s easy to fall in love with sea and marine themed art or images. Essentials by Ellen release S’whale had me with the whales and all the “salty” sentiments! Pairing the Whale and Ocean Swell dies were just easy as if they were meant to be together.

Watercoloring sea images is so fun with boundless colors in nature, anything goes!

Using dimensional tape or fun foam adds to the ocean depth look that I love. So many fun sentiments in the S’whale set it was difficult to choose which one to use!

Another little close up. See how I stuck the whale under the little fish, there.  Fishing buddies.

Have a great weekend!
